About the Club

   Leo Club of SMK Bahang was formed on 22nd May 1996 under the sponsorship of Lions Club of Penampang Host. The Club started with 25 members and Leo Charlene Ng became the first president.

   The idea of forming this Leo Club came from Past President Lion Range Majikol, who was then the President of Lions Club of Penampang Host and the principal of SMK Bahang.Induction ceremony

   The club has been actively organizing projects and activities for the benefits of the community since its forming back in 1996. The club also works closely with its Sponsoring Lions Club to serve the needy. Aside from that, the club has participated in Leo Camps and Multiple District Leo Forums.


Visit to orphanage   The presence of Leo Club in SMK Bahang had benefited the students in many ways. Leo Club fosters social awareness in both its members as well as other students. Through the activities, they are given the opportunity to lead and gain valuable experience. Members also learn organisational skills and develop leadership quality. Not surprisingly, members of the club often excel in academic.

   Entering the club's 8th year, it is hoped that the club will continue to strive in its quest for excellence in serving the community.


About this Site

Web site launched   The official site of Leo Club of SMK Bahang Penampang was officially launched in conjunction with the club's 6th anniversary on 23 August 2002 by Zone 9 Chairman Lion Dr. Arabi Farid Wazani and witnessed by District Chairman for Leo (Sabah) Lion Stanley Chin.

   This site was a brainchild of the President as well as several other Leos, in a bid to promote the club to Leos and non-Leos around the world. Besides that, this site was developed to help members keep up with club activities and provides them with easier access to club photos.

   This site was awarded a Special Achievement Award from the District Governor, Lion Cheng Yick Siong on 21 June 2003 as an recognition for its role in promoting the Club and its activities.


Leo Club Programme

What are Leo clubs?
   Leo Club is an official programme of the International Association of Lions Clubs to promote and encourage service activities among the youths of the community, to serve others in the community and around the world that will develop individual leadership quality. Every Leo Club formed must be sponsored by a Lions Club.

   Two Lions, Jim Graver and William Ernst established the first Leo Club in the world, Leo Club of Abington High School in October 1957 sponsored by Glenside Lions Club in Pennsylvania. The club started with 9 sophomores, junior, senior boys and 26 baseball players of the school.

   Lions Clubs International officially adopted the Leo Club Programme as an activity in October 1967, 10 years after the first Leo Club was formed. By then there were more than 30 clubs being formed when Lions Clubs International adopted the programme.

Leos during a function   Today, there are more than 5 600 clubs, 140 000 members in 134 countries and geographical areas worldwide.

   In each Leo Club there must be a Leo Club Adviser and a Faculty Adviser who guides and provides assistance to the Leos. The Leo Club Adviser is a liaison between the Lions Club and Leo Club whilst the Faculty Adviser is the liaison for the school authority.

Who are Leos
   Leos are youth of ages between 13 to 28 years with high moral standard and dedicated to community services and not member of other service clubs.

Objective of Leo Club
   "To provide the youth of the world with an opportunity for development and contribution, individually and collectively, as responsible members of the local, national and international community".

Purpose of Leo Club
   To promote service activities among the youth of the community which will develop individual qualities of LEADERSHIP, EXPERIENCE and OPPORTUNITY.

Leo Club Motto
LEADERSHIP - develop skills as organisers, time managers and motivators of their peers.
EXPERIENCE - learn the importance of cooperation through the performance of community service.
OPPORTUNITY - provides a chance to develop character traits and to receive recognition for their contributions to the community.

Official Colours of Leo Club
Gold and Maroon - derived from the official school colour of Abington High School.
