EW (Fall TV Preview issue) has
Rock Star in it's Internet section, spotlighting some websites. Also a
bit about Band if Brothers, Donnie's movie on HBO.
Greg over at UpcomingMovies,
has the date for POTA's video release date. He has it as Nov. 27th (one
day after my B-day!) He's usually very reliable, but it's not confirmed.
Hear a clip of the Rock
Star Press junket and a short
vid interview with Mark from Extra.
Note I moved Mark's appearance
on Leno, E Factor said they switched with Jennifer's. Also Aussiegirl notes
Mark will be doing the AOL Chat at 4pm PST/7pmEST.
A mixed/Negative
review of RS from AICN.

Also I found the 3
Kings German press conferance I had linked way back in '99, thnx to

Star Soundtrack, visit the official

The first videos for 'Rock Star"
by the alt rock band Everclear along with the video for Steel Dragon's

but don't hold me on it] were added into rotation at
VH-1 starting 9/3!

More about POTA
in the UK, where it pulled in 2.3 Million Pounds, PR about the LA premiere
& a new VH1 Special which features an interview w/Mark.
08-28
The Rock Star Soundtrack hits
stores today.
Some Int'l
BO articles, with POTA doing very well overseas. It's #10 here in the
States. And tracked down an interview
with Empire where Burton says he will NOT be doing a commentary for
the DVD! So those expecting an explaination from him will be disappointed.
More POTA
Premiere pics from Yahoo. These are from the NY World Premiere.

OT: everyone must have heard
this by now, but Aaliyah (and 8 other people on the flight) died Sat. night.
A very sad event, as I was a major fan of her music and her potential as
an actress was barely unleashed. Her works will live on forever. RIP
PR about a Rock
Star Soundtrack special on ShopNBC and Debbie sent in a scan of an
interview of Mark by Australian
mag, New Idea. Thanks Debbie!!
The WB auction has started and
some items up include the actual
costume worn by Mark, his guitar
which he used, duffle
bag used by Mark's character, a movie
poster signed by all of the cast and a prop
shirt of Blood Pollution (the fictional band Mark's character Chris
starts up) You better have beaucoup bucks, some items are already up to
$300+
Also note I put ?? on Mark's
appearance on the Today Show. It's still not a done deal according to Mark
S. Rock Star is also having a private premiere in San Francisco Sept.
5, which may be the reason for the uncertainity of the Today show. SF's
a fun city, but then I'm biased living in Oakland. So a big rush to do
a 7am show vs. hanging out in SF (and getting a bit of sleep) is not much
of a contest.

Mark was spotted in Boston.
The official footage of the French
Premiere is available from FoxFrance.
Lots of Mark (& even E!), tho no sound of the conference, just a remix
of the POTA theme song. You'll need Quicktime to see it, for 28k,
56k
&
cable/DSL
modems.
08-21
Mark decided to return to the
US instead of coming to Berlin. :(
POTA had one of the biggest openings
in the UK! Read more here
More auctions, WB is auctioning
Rock Star stuff including some of Mark's costumes to support VH-1's Save
the Music Foundation. It begins Friday Aug. 24 ending Sept. 3. Press release

Mark & co were in Paris
tonight for the premiere!
Articles
including box office news, an interview from Popcorn (UK) and an Interview
from last
year from the Independent (UK). Also the Female
portal of Australia asked me to link their site, which this month has
an interview
with Mark. It may look familiar as Dark
Horizons had it first back in July.
Maduxetta (aka Anna) posted some
pictures of Mark
in Spain. Check her
site out!
FYI the auction of the photos
on AOL picked up a pretty penny for Mark's Foundation, bringing a combined
$1281.50! The highest bid was $380 for a pic of Mark on the set of Rock
Star!
08-18
Today is E Factor's Birthday!
Have a Happy Birthday!
Mark & Co will be heading
for Paris.
Found a small video of part of
the press conference in Spain where you can
see Mark. He doesn't say anything in it, but it's the only one I could
find.
Butterfly and Bridget have reported
on their UK Premiere experience over at the boards.
Pics to come at a later date.
Some pics and articles of Mark
in Barcelona. They're in Spanish, But you don't have to know how
to read to look at the pictures. Reuters,
El
Pais & Cinemagacine.
Amy at the Yahoo MarkWahlbergFanClub
notes the Sept. issue of Maxim has an article on Rock Star on pg 108. Maxim
has a whole page with Mark kneeling on the stage (it's on the RS
website somewhere) and their rating of how it compares to the real
metal scene.
Also went to San Fran and saw
Uk magazines Empire & Total Film have POTA coverage. Empire has a really
cute cover of Mark holding a chimp, but there's not much else inside on
him, just the movie. Total Film has snippets of interviews of the cast,
along with a few small behind the Scene photos of Mark. I picked up the
moviebook from Newmarket Press at the Virgin Megastore (they also have
the action figures-so UKers try Virgin Stores if you can't find them).
The book is really cool if you're nuts about behind the scene stuff. Not
much on Mark/Leo but cool nevertheless. The script is inside, but the final
scene is not included. It's suppose to be in later Editions, so it's your
choice to buy it. saw the comic book for the movie (no end scene as well)
looks cool. I would of bought it, but it was all wrinkled from everyone
reading it. It was expensive tho, $6.95! I remember comics used to go for
50 cents.
08-17
Mark & Co. are in Spain
for the Premiere, so be on the lookout.
EW (august 24/31 with Tom &
Penelope on the cover) has their movie preview of Rock Star (and Ocean's
11). Cool Pic of Mark and the band.
Posted 3 articles where Burton
says he will NOT do a POTA Sequel, so that means Mark is also a no-no.
Many people may dismiss Burton, but he didn't do the next Batman movie
despite it making money and praise from critics, so I'd be inclined to
believe him.
08-16
A mixed review of Rock
Star, which has begun airing 3 different commercials here in the US.
Saw them on NBC.
Boston Globe: You can, however,
see the real Dylan in all his ragged glory in the classic ''Don't Look
Back,'' one of the films being screened at the New Yorker's music-themed
film festival at the Kendall Square Cinema Sept. 10-12. ''Stop Making Sense,''
''Purple Rain,'' and the new ''Rock Star,'' starring Mark Wahlberg and
Jennifer Aniston, among others, will screen. The films featured are ones
''where the score plays a starring role,'' according to The New Yorker.
Added a link to the short article
in last week's People and news
of the POTA after party.
Marks One Love posted unconfirmed
news on the Rock Star Premiere, as September 4th at 6:30pm in LA at Mann's
Village Theatre. Date looks firm, but the other info is unsure.
Marthe posted on the boards,
Mark will be on the VMAs on MTV Sept. 6th. More details here.

Hope fans in the UK got a glimpse
as Mark & E head off to Spain tomorrow for the premiere at Barcelona

Article about the UK

everyone wants to know. :)
Finally finished up the Regis
and TRL interviews Mark did. My ethernal thanks to Rhonda for sending
me a copy. You're fabulous!
Pic of Mark in the UK, one from
Reuters
and one from the UK station SKY.
You can kinda see E in the background of the SKY pic. And for some moving
pictures, the BBC
has some footage (Real Player needed) of the premiere and Sky
has a segment (Windows Media Player needed) on POTA with a short interview.
The video links might not work after today, so watch while you can.
08-14
Tons of articles,
including some box office numbers, ILM PR about the effects they did for
POTA and Kevin Smith clears up his 'beef' with Burton.
08-12
Please take note, I don't mind
you keeping copies of the stuff you find here. But I have major problems
when people take work of mine or people who have generously donated and
claiming they did all the work on their website. Modifying things does
not make it your work! I have since taken preliminary steps to stop the
offender.
That out of the way, Thanks to
Lani who typed up a short interview from New
Weekly where he talks about his single status and I've added an interview
by TV2it where he says he doubts he'll be showing any more flesh of
the Boogie Nights variety and there's a claim of Mark not being Catholic
by the writer, which is a major mistake. I'm working on Regis & TRL
transcripts as we speak.
And UK visitors, Mark and E Factor
are in town. Say hi for me!
08-10
Big thanks to Eden who sent
me the transcript to Mark's
David
Letterman interview! Also thanks to Rhonda I will be transcribing Regis

Planet of the Apes opens Today!!!
I saw it today and I loved it, 3 stars. It was overall a great film, from
the opening titles to the closing music. The ending, I knew part of the
twist, had an added twist. Mark does a fabulous job as always, but he was
limited by the genre. Still he does add some emotion to his role. Read
my preliminary review here.
Also my print had an extended
Rock Star trailer, along with some interesting movies coming in the fall
- The Musketeer, The Count of Monte Cristo and Paltrow's Shallow Hal.

Mark was supposed to be on the
Howard Stern show this morning. You might be able to pick up part of the
show on the E! broadcast later this week or next week or even the CBS version
Saturday night. I have my shorthand
notes of the show up. It's alot cleaner than what Stern said, but you
get the gist of the interview.
Added 6
new articles about the POTA premiere and another interview from DarkHorizons.

Mark
Shields posted some of his Pictures from the Premiere.
From USA Today: The Mark Wahlberg
Youth Foundation will be launched Thursday with a benefit screening in
Boston of Planet of the Apes, with Boys and Girls Club members in the audience.
Wahlberg, who co-stars, was a member of a similar club in Dorchester, Mass.,
and attributes his success to its influence. His foundation will aid enrichment
programs for young people. The screening, at the new 19-screen multiplex
Loews Boston Common, will be followed by a reception and silent auction
of Apes memorabilia at Pravda 116.

07-22
From NY Daily News: "Planet
of the Apes" star Mark Wahlberg and model Rhea Durham displayed some amorous
primate behavior Thursday night. The two ran into each other at Nobu, where
Durham was dining with Maverick music exec Guy Oseary and his girlfriend,
Eva Herzigova.
Wahlberg must have liked what
he saw. The two dinner parties headed up to the Candyland bash at Exit
on W.56th.
Wahlberg, now split from "Fast
and Furious" star Jordana Brewster, proceeded to get highly funky on the
dance floor with Durham, who used to date Stephen Dorff and was recently
linked with "Saturday Night Live" comic Jimmy Fallon.
"They were dancing really
close," a spy tells us. "Later, they were kissing and he was touching her
thigh. They left together about 3:30 a.m."
Wahlberg is in town for tomorrow's
"Planet" premiere, and will then move on to Boston for a screening to benefit
the gym that his Youth Foundation is building in the inner city.
Reuters: The sole new wide
release next weekend is director Tim Burton's "Planet of the Apes'' update,
which industry observers expect to take the box office crown. The film
screened to great acclaim for movie theater executives on Thursday, said
Twentieth Century Fox executive Rick Myerson. "The ending has everybody
buzzing ... It's a great twist,'' he said cryptically
Today's LA Times has a new interview
with Mark! See a
picture of Mark (outside link) in LA. And an article from Newsday
about POTA.
The NY Post reports Mark has
an invite to the Cabana restaurant/club at the Capri hotel in Southampton
tonight for the Mademoiselle magazine party, feting their August cover
girl, "Sex and the City" star Kristen Davis.
The Cabana, incidentally,
is the latest addition to Hamptons night life, if that sort of thing interests
you. The man behind the curtain there is David Sartre, a night-life vet
whom you might remember from the old days at Spy bar and the original Chaos.
The address is 281 County Road 39A; the party runs from 9 p.m. to midnight.
Aside from Davis herself and
Mademoiselle's terminally perky editor Mandi Norwood, those promised to
attend include portly piano man Billy Joel, "Planet of the Apes" man-of-the-moment
Mark Wahlberg, "Sex and the City" stylist and boutique owner Pat Fields,
the excellent Kyle MacLachlan, whose "Sex and the City" appearances leaven
the proceedings..

2 negative
reviews of POTA from AICN, and it totally gives away the ending, so

Here's the direct
link to the newest International trailer for POTA!
From the NY Post:
DON'T look for Susan Sarandon
and Tim Robbins among the glitterati flocking to the new hot spot Man Ray.
The politically opinionated power couple are among well-heeled neighbors
who live not far from the Asian-themed restaurant/lounge on West 15th Street,
and will be forced to hear the booze-fueled racket emanating from inside.
We hear Sarandon and Robbins complained about noise from 147, the restaurant's
earlier incarnation, before Johnny Depp, Sean Penn and John Malkovich,
among others, bought it and turned it into Man Ray. The new owners have
been careful to soundproof the club, but at the grand opening Wednesday
night, several residents on the block called to complain they were kept
up all night. A-list celebs like Robert De
Niro, Warren Beatty, Francis Ford Coppola, Edward Norton, Mark Wahlberg
and Joan Collins slipped past the velvet ropes
before the club reached capacity and the NYPD barred the less fabulous
from entering.
07-12
The new trailer premieres on
the POTA site Today at 6pm
PST/9pm EST. (tomorrow if you're east of the US at 1 am GMT) An hour before
the Trailer hits, Helena Bonham Carter has a live chat. MAybe she'll mention
Mark!

If you picked up the new Vanity

The ad will appear in several more magazines over the next few months in
a joint cross promotion. Read more here.

with her sister Isabella.
07-08
Checking Ebay I stumbled across
some obscure magazines with cover stories on Mark. Dom't worry if you can't
find them, they look regional. But if you live in the area, you might get
something else to read:
July 2001 issue of LA's Bold
Magazine, featuring Mark Wahlberg on the cover and inside for a piece on
musicians crossing over into film (also includes Aaliyah, Will Smith, Madonna,
Courtney Love, Jennifer Lopez and more). Also features on Sade (almost
2 pages), Hot Latin Clubs of LA, the Best Chinese restaurants in LA, the
"Charlie's Angels Workout," Hollywood Tough Guys (Russell Crowe, Jackie
Chan, Harrison Ford, Mel Gibson, Samuel L. Jackson and more) plus the usual
Hollywood gossip that Bold is famous for. Issue is 62 pages.
MARK WAHLBERG is photographed
on the cover of this French Canadian STAR INC magazine (08/2001). Inside
magazine 4 full pages about MARK WAHLBERG including 2 photos. Also 2 full
pages including one nice photo about HELENA BONHAM CARTER. About HUGH JACKMAN
(2 pages/one photo). Plus 2 full pages about EDWARD NORTON including one
photo. About HANK AZARIA (one page/one photo), etc.
I don't know just how informative
these magazines are as I've never heard about them before. Well I did hear
of Star Inc for another fandom, it seems to be mostly retread, even the
cover photos are prety old. But if you live in Quebec or ther abouts, check
it out. The LA one looks like one of those local rags thay put in those
magzine racks on the streets. I can get just about every California magazine
from my local magazine dealer but I've never seen it. So I doubt too many
folks can get a hand on it unless they live there. So go check your magazine
racks, scour the ones in the back, you never know what could be there.
AICN has 2 new
reviews of Rock Star, both are pretty positive but they do give away
the ending of the film, so read at your own risk.
From the Boston Herald: Hollywood
hottie Mark Wahlberg can't stray far from his roots. While visiting the
rels this week, he hung at hip, happenin' Whiskey Park as well as The Playwright
in Southie. Bet there was a Funky Bunch in both places!

Mark might be in the Hamptons
tonight for Reese's new movie and Stuff's open house party. But you have
to have some major bucks if you wanna come. $300-$500 Yikes!
Variety reports: Rated PG-13
"Planet of the Apes'' (20th Century Fox) -- for some sequences of action/violence.
In the new US Magazine, there's
a little snippet about Chelsea Clinton In Paris. She was spotted at Nobu
and one of the guests was Mark. Applepie spotted a French
article with a bit more info: Robert de Niro opened a new Japanese
restaurant (Nobu) in Paris, on JUNE 29. Among the guests... Mark Wahlberg
of course.
KristyKay spotted these from
the Boston Globe & Herald: Mark Wahlberg comes back home July 26
for a prerelease screening of "Planet of the Apes," in which he costars.
It's a benefit for the Boys and Girls Club of Dorchester. The Artist Formerly
Known as Marky Mark will also announce the opening of the Mark Wahlberg
Foundation.
Overheard at the Hatch Shell:
Dorchester's own Mark Wahlberg,
who will soon be seen in Tim Burton's "Planet of the Apes,'' was spotted
hanging out at Whiskey Park with his publicist the other night.

Kathleen notes Access Hollywood
mentioned Mark's Vanity Fair is set for stands on the 10th. I went into
the City (SF) and couldn't find it at Borders or Virgin Records.
I think the date given by ET was for subscribers. SO look for it next week
instead. Also went to FAO Swartz, but no POTA figures.
A recent article about the Judas
Priest/Rock Star controversy.

Just noticed how many Californians
wrote in my
guestbook, but y'all seem to be in So. Cal. Am I the only N. Cal Mark
fan? I'm just curious. It's fine by me (I won't have to share if
he ever comes back to the Bay Area), but dang that would be weird.
The Actors unions have reached
a tentative agreement late Tuesday. So looks like we won't be having a
strike. Yay!
A short anippet from VF from
the AP:
Wahlberg Not Afraid of Taking
Risks
NEW YORK (AP) - Mark Wahlberg
made a name for himself wearing Calvin Klein's underwear - but can he fill
Cary Grant's shoes?
Wahlberg recently spent time
in Paris shooting a remake of ``Charade,'' the 1963 romantic thriller which
starred Grant and Audrey Hepburn.
Jonathan Demme will direct
the new film, titled ``The Truth About Charlie,'' which is due out next
year. Wahlberg plays the Grant role and Thandie Newton plays Hepburn's
role.
``I probably won't realize
what it means until it's over and I get bashed for destroying a great part,''
the 30-year-old former underwear model and rapper told Vanity Fair magazine
in its August issue. ``But I'm really not scared of taking risks.''
Wahlberg stars next in the
updated version of ``Planet of the Apes,'' which opens July 27.
Vanity Fair hits the stands in
the US. Don't you love VF? 2 (March & this new one) times they've featured
pictures of Mark! Can we hope for a third for Rock Star? Tell them we would
love one. Send letters to Vanity Fair, 4 Times Square, NY, NY 10036 or
e-mail them at [email protected]

Still no agreement on the SAG/AFTRA
strike, but they are still talking which is good news. Even if they do
strike, it'll take at least a month to ratify a strike, so we're safe with
Mark's POTA publicity stuff. But strikes are not good, esp when you live
in CA.
For those of you outside the
US, there's a snippet of Mark's comments on ET
Online. Thanx to MoonChildk for the heads up! The actual show only
had the editor talking about the story with various clips from the ET archives
and pics from the magazine. Added the pic of the VF cover on the left which
goes on sale July 4th according to ET!

Start looking for those Leo action
figures. It's July!
OK, looks like the 3rd POTA trailer
wasn't on AI, now rumors are for the 4th of July weekend. We shall see.
A small Charlie report from AICN.
