Lucy and Michael - Stuff to do

It may be the off-season, but there is still plenty of stuff to do.

Here are some Edgartown restaurants that you might enjoy.  (More and more are staying open longer through the off-season, but check with the restaurant before you show up.  Most that we have listed here are known for staying open year-round.)

The Newes Pub: A cozy little pub with tasty food and drink.  Even though the hotel above, The Kelley House, will be under renovation, hopefully this'll still be open.

The Wharf Pub.
This Edgartown staple was bought a couple of years ago by friends of Lucy's mother.  There's a bar side and a restaurant side, both of which are satisfying and it's appropriate for groups large or small.

Come hungry.  Humphrey's sandwich shop is great for lunch.  If they've closed down the Edgartown shop for the season and you have a car, drive to the Vineyard Haven location and get a Gobbler (or any other huge sandwich).  It's worth it for the bread alone.

If you're in need of a coffee fix, visit
Espresso Love.  They also have a nice selection of pastries, bagels, sandwiches and salads.

If you're looking for fancier dinner fare in Edgartown, try
Alchemy or Detente.  We haven't been to either of them, but we've heard they're good.

Outside of Edgartown, there are other places you may want to visit in Vineyard Haven (also known as Tisbury) or Oak Bluffs.

The
Black Dog Tavern is pretty reliable for a filling brunch.  If you show up for dinner, be aware that Vineyard Haven is BYOB.  Oh yeah, they sell T-shirts too.

Mocha Motts in either VH or OB will cater to your coffee needs outside of Edgartown.

In Oak Bluffs, try
Offshore Ale for lunch or dinner (they brew their own beer and also have nice personal pizzas in addition to other good entrees) or Sharky's Cantina for some excellent Mexican eats.  Sharky's also just opened an Edgartown edition.

Looking for something besides food or drink?

There's a movie theater in Edgartown with two screens.   And if you're around during the day, you can always roll up your pants cuffs and go for a brisk stroll in the sand at Light House Beach (within walking distance from town), Bend in the Road or South Beach, or, if you're feeling really adventurous, you can drive out to Menemsha and watch the sunset - although we've never been there any later than August.  The cliffs in Aquinnah are quite a sight and the gingerbread houses in Oak Bluffs are also fun to see.

You may also want to pick up a copy of either of the two local papers:
Martha's Vineyard Times or Gazette and check out their "Calendar" sections for a list of other local events like concerts or plays.  They are published weekly on Thursday and Friday, respectively.
