THE PAST BUILDS THE FUTURE

Domain I - Planning and Preparation
The Sankofa Adinkra Symbol represents the past building on the future.  We can not teach our children to exist in the present and prepare for the future unless they are equipped with what has happened in the past.  We must teach them that when they make mistakes it is okay to go back and correct it. Incorporating this in the classroom, we must build upon our students' prior knowledge helping them to link the information with what they already know and understand. Helping students to understand that making mistakes only helps them in the growing and learning process.
There are many aspects of preparation that takes place before a teacher steps into his/her classroom for the first time.  During my teaching experience some of those principles that were incorporated into my classroom were lesson plans, planning time with my supervising teacher, team planning meeting, researching different resources that go into making the lessons and preparing for student learning abilities.
