Mary Isabella Campbell

(1891 - 1993)

Mary was the daughter of Neil Campbell and Margaret McCowan and was my Great Grandmother. Mary was born on 23 October 1891 at "Inverary", Mullumbimby, NSW. She enjoyed a happy childhood. With her brothers and sister she milked the cows before and after school. They had to walk 3 kms to school. On finishing her schoolling at the Grammar school, Mary expressed desire to train as a nurse. Her father, however, wanted her to remain near home. So Mary studied music, oil painting, and was very good at needlework.

Mary married Duncan MacKinnon on 27 April 1923 in Sydney, NSW.

Later they moved to Doonside, then a rural town 40km from Sydney where they developed a poultry farm. Mary worked on the farm while Duncan was at sea. Mary and Duncan were baptised into the Christadelphian faith on 21 May 1932.
