I had the pleasure of meeting Roy Orbison on several different occassions at the home of his parents, Orb and Nadine Orbison, when they lived one block from me in Galena Park, Texas. I ran around with Roy's brother, Sam, until Claudette, Roy's first wife, died in June of 1966. They moved to Hendersonville, Tennessee shortly after her death. My wife and I stayed in touch with Nadine and visited her and Wesley, Roy's son, up until about five years ago. I have three records from the early sixties that Roy autographed for me. Wouldn't trade them for all the Elvis records there are. We will always love and remember Roy Orbison and all of his family. We are planning a trip in the spring to visit Wesley Orbison who I understand now lives next to Johnny Cash. Roy gave Johnny and June Cash the property next to them after the tragic fire f Roy's home that took the lives of Roy, Jr. and Tony Orbison.Johnny kept it for years and had an orchard growing on it and I read recently that Johnny and June gave it to Wesley to build him a home on. When Roy was at his peak I was only 11 to 13 years of age, but thankfully having much older brothers, they bought his discs etc. so in effect I was raised on him , Elvis and Buddy H. Seeing Roy's memory being kept alive by his fans must be gratifying to his family. Whether it's Dave's photographs, Ab's incredible amount of recorded material or any other fan's recollections it's something deserved by Roy and understood by many! Thanks to my career I had the opportunity to host three live appearances, meet Roy's father, brother sam and two sons. Thanks to Dave Shoenfelt for the chance to meet Wesley years later and come face to face with so many other true believers in the greatn ss of Roy Orbison. Top of the list of regrets is missing the Nashville party last year!

My 12 year old daughter says she was especially impressed that Roy knelt down to her level and talked with her. Roy was and kept human and natural, noone from us knows how he felt in the late 70ies when 50 people visited his concerts only. Well, you never should think any person is naturalness, especially not if you have one of the very rare persons who used their oices as an instrument, like Roy did! If the shares go well this autumn I may ask an artist to form a stone-statue in my garden with Roys appearance. It is interesting to listen to Barabara Orbison´s german interviews and her stories about Roy and Elvis j king about "another Cadillac? another diamond ring?", so much we would wish to know about this man, how he mastered the loss of his beloved persons. As a young lad of 15 in 1961 I bought my first 45 record. It was Roy's record 'Running Scared'. I knew nothing of him - where he was from; what he looked like; or even how old he was. All I knew was that I was captivated by his voice and his song. Fro that moment I have been an avid fan of his and my record and cd collection bears testimony to this. I was fortunate to finally see him perform in an ante room at the Sydney Opera House in the early 1970's. There was nothing superficial about his show - he just stood there and sang his songs. I couldn't get over how he sounded just like his records - which was exactly how I wanted it to be. I recall how I wished his show would just go on and on. I never tire of listening to his music and I feel indebte to him for the pleasure he has given me continuously over the past 40 years. No doubt like other fans of Roy I often wished I had the opportunity to personally thank him for giving me this pleasure. Submitting these comments on your excellent site has m de me feel that I have paid tribute to a great artist who thoroughly deserved it.

Roy's music has been a big part of my life. I am known for three main things by all who know me. 1) I come from the Isle of Wight, England 2) I support Preston North End Football Club, and 3) I absolutely worship the music of Roy Orbison. When I am feeling a bit down I put on my Orby records, have a good old sing along and without fail it lifts my spirits. Without Roy my life would be much more empty. I'm really 'out of action' due to serious family health problems but I never am totally out of touch...I wanted to email you to alert you and fans to the following items: (Please forward me your email address after this...): 1) Jerry Haymes, who played with Roy in the 50s at Sun, as one of the backing Roses, will finally get to pay tribute to his friend April 15-16 at VErnon, Texas. After many years of trying to get a real tribute going at Wink, he has given that up and turne to the larger Vernon, Roy's birthplace, where city fathers have welcomed his show. He will headline along with the Texas Playboys (of Bob Wills fame). Jerry will sing four Orbison songs, backed by the Playboys, talk about his memories. Of special interest is that eldest son Wesley Orbison has agreed to come to meet and greet fans. The city of Vernon has already come up with a park named for Roy with a statue of Orbison--something the smaller Wink never was quite able to accomplish... I had occasion one time to see the final polishing of a huge glass lens for a observatory type telescope. On edge, the glass was over 5" thick; but viewed from above the glass was blown so so perfectly amazingly flawless and clear that you had absolutely o sense of there being any real surface to it-it was as though if you were to reach down to touch it your fingers would go right through. To me that was the perfect example of The Voice of Roy Orbison. The way he could "bell" that pure sound and make it r sonate with a harmonic that brings you up short and concentrate your attentions right completely, totally on, and in, the Moment will never be duplicated. His voice and his music has saved my life. He had no sucessor; he will have no equal. Thank you, Roy

From that evening on, I was a Roy fan. I can thank Elvis for introducing me to Roy. And even Elvis thought Roy was the greatest singer in the world!

I fell in love with Roy's music the same time I fell in love with my future wife. Though at that time she did not have the same feellings I had and that's where Roy's music filled my empty void. I can't count the times I played "In Dreams" and "Only the onely" when I was in my room at night alone in my misery. Roy sang right to my heart. Luckily I had better luck in the future than Roy had in alot of his songs.
