The buildings in the Forbidden City were added or renovated during the Ming Dynasty and the Ching Dynasty in China.  Different Chinese emperors performed different modification of the original plan in the Forbidden City.  The Chinese emperor Jia Jing in the Ming Dynasty and the Chinese emperor Qian Long in the Ching Dynasty renovated the Forbidden City.  These renovations of religious buildings, reading rooms, libraries, and theaters had similarities and differences based on the culture and preferences of the Chinese emperors in different dynasties.
