Operas and plays were the major entertainment in the Forbidden City.  However, the Chinese emperor Jia Jing did not build any theater inside the Forbidden City during the Ming Dynasty because plays and operas were not popular.  Nevertheless, it became the �most interesting amusement in the Ching Court� (Ru 130).  As a result, theater stage such as the Pavilion of Pleasant Sounds were built during the Ching Dynasty.
