Harold Sagar Williams was a very interesting man. He was an inventor, composer, classical pianist, writer, glider pilot, mathematician, filmmaker and draftsman. He was born in Great Harwood, Lancashire in 1903. His father died at a young age and his mother placed him (and his sister & brother) in an orphanage for several years while she lived a wild life. As soon as he was old enough, Harold set off for America, going first to Mexico and then travelling throughout the west, ending up in Los Angeles. About 15 years later, his sister Marie followed him to California. Their mother, who had finished with her wild life by then, soon joined the two (Harold's brother Albert, remained in England throughout his life.)
Harold worked in the oil business as a draftsman for Union Oil Company. In 1940, he married Dorothy Jeanette Borglin and a year later they had twin daughters, Diane and Susan. Harold wrote a short story about their first year and composed a piano piece for their birth.
Harold invented a machine that made a tool for precision line dafting which he had patented in 1950. As well as being a classical pianist, he also made a short film entitled "WE SHALL HAVE MUSIC" with the help of his son-in-law Fred. He died in 1965 suddenly and doctors never did find out exactly what killed him.

This is the house in Great Harwood where harold was born.
