ABCs of Kindergarten
Absences - If your child will be absent from school, please call the office at 704-658-2650 and leave a message with a secretary. Please make sure your child also has a written excuse for all absences.

Attendance -
A successful school experience is the responsibility of the children, the parent(s), and the school. Your childs progress, both academically and socially, is influenced to a great extent by daily participation. Regular attendance without tardiness is a key.

Arrival -
If your child will be eating breakfast at school, he/she should arrive at school around   8:30 a.m. School begins at 8:45 a.m. Teacher assistants in the gym monitor children who arrive before 8:30 a.m. All students may go to their classroom at 8:30 a.m.

Art
Our class will go to Art with Ms. Tucker every Thursday.

Backpacks - To help your child carry messages and information to and from school, you are asked to provide a backpack. The backpack needs to be large enough to hold a folder.  No wheels please!  The wheeled backpacks are too large for our cubbies. Your child will enjoy sharing the contents of his/her backpack with you, so please make time to go over the contents together.

Birthdays -
Birthdays are special occasions for young children. We would like to have every child be able to celebrate their birthday with their classmates. If a child has a summer birthday, we will celebrate their birthday. Parents may send in a treat (i.e. cupcakes, brownies) and are welcome to come read the birthday childs favorite book to the class.

Book It! -
Book It! is a reading incentive program sponsored by Pizza Hut. Your child will earn coupons good for free personal pizzas just by reading!

Book Orders -
Occasionally we will be sending home book order forms for you and your child to look over. These clubs offer wonderful books at reduced prices-what a great way to build your home library!

Breakfast -
Breakfast is available in the school cafeteria. The cost is $1.00. Students who plan to eat breakfast should arrive at school by 8:30 a.m.

Computers - We are fortunate to have computers in our classroom. We use a variety of age appropriate programs that reinforce math and pre-reading/reading skills. We also visit the computer lab on Fridays for computer instruction.

Conferences -
Parent/Teacher conferences are held in November. At this conference, we will be discussing your childs accomplishments, strengths, and overall progress. Please feel free to schedule additional conferences at any time throughout the year if the need arises.

Dismissal - All kindergarten children who do not ride a bus will need to be picked up by an adult specified on the emergency card. School is dismissed at 3:15 p.m.  Teachers prepare for student learning once children are dismissed. When parents are late picking up children, teachers are left with little or no planning time.

Disposable Camera
Please send in a disposable camera for us to capture special memories of your child during his/her first year in kindergarten.  We will send the camera home when all pictures have been taken.
