Dear Parents,                                                                               September 9, 2002

WOW!  I can't believe how fast August flew by!  I guess time flies when you are having fun.  We have been having a blast in first grade learning so many things.  It's amazing how fast we learn!  Our newsletter is already up on our website along with our story words, which can be found under the heading:  letter.  This will be the last newsletter that is sent home to those who have access to the internet.  All other newsletters will be up on the web by the first week of every month.  Please let me know via a note or e-mail if you are unable to access your e-mail and/or our website at any time so that I can make other arrangements for you.  Please remember to check your e-mail and our website at least once a week preferably on Sundays.

Extra!  Extra!  Read All About It!
This week we will be reading our last story from our Hello books.  We will be having our first unit test at the beginning of the third week of September.  We will also be starting our next reading book titled Problem Patrol during that week.  All children have been assessed at this time.  We will be starting our reading groups this week to see what reading level the children are at.  By the end of this quarter, your child should be reading a level 4 book or higher to be marked on level and learning in reading.  It is important that you continue to read to and with your child every night and record it in their daily reading log.  This is part of their grade in their homework as well as in reading.  Please make sure it stays in your child's M.O.O.S.E. Notebook.  Thanks!

On the Write Track!
We are still practicing our handwriting skills.  Please help your child at home with this skill.  We have started writing sentences to go with our spelling words this past week.  We are also learning how the writing process works.  We have been writing almost everyday.  I think I see some writers of the future in our class!
