The
Process
Step 1 INVESTIGATE
You have been assigned
to a group
of 6 judges. You have also been assigned a judging category.
Your group will share the work of evaluating the
websites in your assigned category.
- Within your group divide into 3 pairs. One
pair will assess authority, another content, and another design.
- Click on the appropriate link to get to your evaluation
form. Make sure you either print out the form or save it to a
Word document.
- Each pair within your group should be working at a separate
computer.
- With your partner work on filling out your form for
the first website. The rest of your group will be filling out
their forms on the same website.
- Put your forms for the first website in a safe place.
Move on to the next website in your category.
- If you finish before the rest of your group, go back over
your findings or join one of the other pairs as they are working on
their assessments.
- When your whole group is finished with their tasks, go on to
Step 2.
Select the appropriate evaluation form and
print it out or copy it to a Word document.
Step 2
EVALUATE
As a group you will
develop a summary of your findings on each website.
- Gather the three evaluation forms for the first
website.
- Compare your findings.
- Go back and look at the website again if necessary.
- Write a summary paragraph descrbing the strengths and
weaknesses of the website.
- SAVE the summary paragraph to be handed in to the head judge.
- Continue this process until you have a summary paragraph for
each of the websites in your topic.
Step 3
RANK
It's time for you to
decide! Out of all of the websites in your category, which one
deserves the Webbie?
- Gather your summary paragraphs
for each site. This summary should contain the strengths and
weaknesses of the site.
- Compare your sites. If
necessary go back and look at each one to help in your decision making.
- Remember
to USE THE CRITERIA OF AUTHORITY, CONTENT, AND DESIGN!
- Do not base your decision on
your gut feeling or on which one was most eye-catching.
- Come to a consensus within your
group as to which site deserves the Webbie.
- If you have any questions or
difficulties, please confer with the head judge.
Step 4 The Awards Ceremony
- Prepare an oral presentation that explains why the site your
group selected deserves a Webbie Award in its category.
- Create a visual component that supplements your oral
presentation. Examples: Power Point slide show, a trifold board,
a poster.
- Prepare a "Credits" page that specifies how each member of the
group contributed to the Presentation phase of the project.
- Remember to base both your oral
presentation and your visuals on the three criteria of Authority,
Content, and Design.
- Hand in your evaluation forms and
summary paragraphs to the head judge.
Rehearse your presentation and
pick out your outfit. You are going to the Webbie Awards!
