Latest News November: The OMSS Room is closed temporarily, pending renovations of the basement. It will be re-opened hopefully by the start of next year. Until then, good luck with your exams and have a happy and safe holiday!
This
year's Annual Dinner was held in the classy Dragon
Boat on the Yarra on the evening of Friday 17 September. With
an appetising 8-course banquet featuring crab in ginger sauce, spicy spare-ribs
and vegetarian hot-pot to name a few, the dinner was attended by over 180
people. Special guests included the Dean of Medicine, Prof Richard Larkins,
and his wife, and three tables of lecturers with exceptional turnout from the
Department of Biochemistry. Highlights of the night included a tango by Dr
and Mrs Parslow, games where couples got close and cosy, lucky draw prizes
(including the Fiorelli watch and $100 Myers voucher), multiple photo-shoots in
front of a huge 6 ft tall vase, and the after-party at Metro nightclub.
Everybody had a great time and thanks to our sponsors for their generous support
of this event.
The Internship Seminar (10 September) was a most successful night with over a hundred students attending, most of whom were in the clinical years. The four speakers on the night, Dr Christine Penfold, Dr Kean Ho Soon, Dr Chin Soon Ng and Mr Yu Jo Chua provided the eager audience with an insight into the internship issues as well as sharing some of their internship experiences. There was an opportunity for questions towards the end of the seminar and the need for another internship seminar in the near future was evident.

It might also be worth checking out Club IMG, an organisation created to help international medical graduates (IMGs) in obtaining information and applying in US medical residency programs.
Saturday 28 August was a great day for the inaugural Melbourne OMSS vs Monash IMSS Badminton Tournament, held at the Monash Sports Centre, Clayton campus. Over 30 people turned up to enjoy the friendly matches, post-games pizza and drinks. Many friendships were made on the day. After ten action-packed games with enthusiastic support from both sides' cheer squads, Melbourne emerged victorious, winning eight games to claim the Melbourne-Monash Badminton Tournament Trophy (displayed in the OMSS room) until next year's challenge.
The one-month long Basketball Tournament (July-August) ended in an exhilarating showdown between Figjam and Midnight Psychos. Figjam emerged as the winner by the narrowest margin -- FINAL SCORE: 20-19
