Open Business

For our purposes, an open business practices the following:

  1. price tags rather than price "quotes"
  2. linear pricing rather than "package dealing" or "bundling"
  3. product catalogs published as downloadable databases or spreadsheets rather than printed books or webstacle-laden websites

My own hunch is that this is probably theoretically impossible, given the apparent fact that Information Does Not Want To Be Free. Nevertheless OpenHumanity has been proposed as an even more ambitious and optimistic take on open business.

PubWan is proposed as an attempt to reverse engineer a reasonable (but probably "lo-res") facsimile of the informational offerings of a hypothetical open business using a combination of volunteered labor, information (see VolunteerInformation), software and bandwidth.
