History of The National Brotherhood of Cyclists |
The National Brotherhood of Cyclists (NBC) was formed on March 29, 2008, by grassroots cycling clubs from around the nation made up of African American cyclists. This group believed a national association was needed to promote a love of cycling, increase ethnic diversity within the sport and bring awareness to the health benefits of cycling, while targeting communities negatively affected by health issues. Contributors to the association's development process : Greg Masterson - Metro Atlanta Cycling Club Brian Cox - Metro Detroit Cycling Club Valerie Robertson - Brother to Brother Sister to Sister United Wash. DC., Jack Gardner - Team Black Ski Inc. Bruce Woods - Pittsburgh Major Taylor Cycling Club Charles Love - Major Taylor Cycling Club Dayton Ohio, Thomas Ward - Crank�in Times Roxanne Campbell - Bikin Blazers Philadelphia PA, Kenneth Walker - Major Taylor Foundation of Greater Kansas City, Virgil Ford - Major Motion Cycling Club Los Angeles CA, Bill Wesley - Major Velocity Cycling Club Louis J. Moore - Major Taylor Cycling Club Minnesota, Odale Baker - Major Taylor Cycling Club of San Diego, Charles Brown - Baltimore Metro Wheelers Cycling Club Jeffrey Kellar - Momentum Cycling Club Nashville Tennessee Before NBC was officially established, the group met for months to develop its purpose, mission statement and goals, The first goal was to bring cyclists and cycling clubs from across the nation together into the association�s online community to strengthen its cohesion and visibility. |
