Eoin was born in Wexford, Ireland on May 14, 1965 (jubileebooks.co.uk 2001).

Eoin is the second oldest in a family of five children (Colfer 2002).

He became interested in writing and illustrating while in primary school (the name for elementary school in Ireland) (Colfer 2002).

His first attempt at serious writing was in the sixth grade.  Eoin said "I wrote a play for the class about Norse Gods. Everyone died in the end except me" (jubileebooks.co.uk 2001).

Before becoming a full time writer, Eoin was a primary teacher in Ireland.  He would teach during the day and write after his son had gone to bed (jubileebooks.co.uk 2001).

He married his high school sweetheart in 1991, and the couple lived and worked in Italy, Saudi Arabia and Tunisia for four years (Colfer 2002).

He has two sons, Finn and Sean (Teen Today 2004).

Eoin's first book was
Benny and Omar, published in 1998.  It was so popular that it knocked Harry Potter off the number one spot for bestselling children's book in Ireland (BBC 2002).

He enjoys collecting comics.  Batman is his favorite (jubileebooks.co.uk 2001).

His favorite place is Slade, which is small fishing village in Ireland (Artemis Fowl Fun Site Author 2001).

He has been active in his local drama club and has written, directed and starred in plays alongside his wife (Colfer 2002).

One of the plays he's written for adults is called "The Lords of Love" and Eoin wrote it for his brother, Donal, who is an actor (jubileebooks.co.uk 2001).

As a cameo role in the Artemis Fowl movie, he'd like to "play a little goblin in the crowd scene, so I could just wave at my mother" (BBC 2002).

He does his writing in the garden shed in his backyard which was converted into an office after his second son was born (BBC 2002).

His favorite movie is Silence of the Lambs (Artemis Fowl Fun Site Author 2001).

His series for younger children, the O�Brien Flyers Series, are some of the most borrowed books from the children�s section of the Irish Library Service (Colfer 2002).
