Benny is a twelve year old Irish boy whose life is shattered when his father gets transferred to Tunisia for a year and the whole family has to go with him.  Benny doesn't get along with any of the kids at his school, but forms a secret friendship with an orphan, Omar, who only knows English from watching cable television.  The friendship causes Benny to get into lots of trouble and his parents forbid Benny from seeing Omar ever again.  But Benny knows that Omar and Omar's sick little sister need his help, so he defies his parents and risks his life to help them.

This book marks the return of Benny, from Benny and Omar. In this book, he is spending his summer vacation with his grandfather on the coast of Ireland.  Benny meets Babe, a town local, and the two clash immediately.  Eventually they form a partnership in order to make some money by selling lost fishing bait.  Then they run into Furty, who has the same idea that they do.  The two groups clash and Benny and Babe end up getting into trouble, only to end up being rescued by Furty.

Artemis Fowl  is the world's greatest criminal mastermind, even though he's only twelve years old.  After deciphering a fairy code that the fairies thought was indecipherable, he comes up with a scheme to steal gold from them that involves kidnapping one of their own.  His plan doesn't go as smoothly as he hoped because the kidnapped fairy is none other than Captain Holly Short of the LEPrecon (Lower Elements Police Reconnaisance) Unit.

This is the third book in the Artemis Fowl series.  In this one, Artemis is trying to blackmail a businessman for over a billion dollars.  Things go wrong though, and Artemis must once again turn to his fairy friend, Holly, for help.  The book ends with readers wondering if Artemis has another trick up his sleeve when he agrees a little to easily to let the fairies wipe their memory from his mind.

This is the story of 14-year old Cosmo Hill, who lives at an orphanage where he is experimented on in the name of science.  When he attempts to escape, he�s rescued by the Supernaturalists, a group of kids whose self-proclaimed mission is to destroy the Parasites, creatures they believe feed on the essence of the living.  Cosmo is special because he can actually see the Parasites, whereas normal humans cannot.  As the plot progresses, the Supernaturalists begin to wonder if the Parasites aren�t feeding on people�s souls, but rather destroying their pain. This is a futuristic science fiction story that has a believable plot and fully dimensional characters.

Spud Murphy is the nickname the kids have given to the local librarian.  This nickname originated from the rumors that she keeps a gas-powered spud gun hidden under her desk to shoot children who misbehave in the library. Will and his older brother, Marty, have been ordered by their parents to spend summer vacation in the library working for Spud, and they are not happy about it.
