Mary Through the Centuries : Her Place in the History of Culture

... Finally, the Immaculate Virgin, preserved free from all guilt of original sin, on the completion of her earthly sojourn, was taken up body and soul into heavenly glory, and exalted by the Lord as Queen of the universe, that she might be the more fully conformed to her Son, the Lord of lords and the conqueror of sin and death. ..Pope Paul VI, November 21, 1964

Scholars often sight the similarities between Isis, the Virgin Mother of the Egyptian Karast- Horus, and Mary, the Virgin Mother of the Hebrew Christ - Jesus,  and indeed the similarities are astounding. They would be more astounding if we could say the Ancient Egyptians were a different species not possessing a Human Psyche inwardly drawn to the hidden lure of our personal and societal primal origins in the Arms of our loving mothers.

Many, if not most ancient religions had a story of a virgin birth of its primary god. Most people reject all these stories except the one connected with their own religion. Their Own religion is the religion that their own Loving Mother {and father} inducted them into from the earliest part of their lives, the personal mystical part of their lives, the memories of which the cognizant mind can only draw vague memories it is largely buried/gone but never forgotten.  Our inner selves will always long for a return to that innocent beloved Child which we once were.

The Roman Catholic version of the Virgin Mary contains similes to the ancient Legend of Tammuz, and his mother Semiramis  as well as other pagan Babylonian religions.  For instance ,  Nimrod the Sun god is known as Baal. Semiramis, as the female divinity, would be called Baalti. This word translated into English means "My Lady."  In Latin it would be translated "Mea Domina". This name becomes the name "Madonna" which is the name by which the Virgin Mary is often referred.

The same reasoning can be said of "Mediatrix", which Mary is also called. Mary received that title from "Mylitta" (mediatrix) which was one of the names of the Mother Goddess of Babylon. "The Queen of Heaven" is another name for Mary that has been adopted from the pagan Babylonian religions, and is documented in the Old Testament Book of Jeremiah (Jeremiah 7:18 , 44:17-19, 44:25}

Lvov, Ukraine - Easter 1985  during the celebration of the Liturgy at the Cathedral of the Holy Virgin Mary, In full view of a great throng there suddenly appeared through the window pane a cloud "as bright as a ray of sunlight." It slowly took the shape of a human form, and all acknowledged it to be the Virgin Mary. In a spiritual impulse, the people started to pray aloud and call upon Her for help. People standing outside also saw in the window the image of the Virgin Mary and tried to enter and prayed aloud. The throng kept increasing as
news of the miracle spread. All efforts of the  communist militia to disperse those praying were in vain. People started to come from Kiev and the surrounding regions ,and the atheistic Communist governor of Lvov
requested that Moscow send some experts to investigate what was going on.  The "scholars" began to argue that there were no miracles so that the people should disperse. Suddenly the Virgin spoke:
"Pray; repent from your sins, since there is little time left …" After this She cured many cripples and sick. The vision of the Virgin Mary and the cures continued for three and a half weeks, and She spoke much on the salvation of mankind, as the people remained there day and night.

Medjugorge  -- Medjugorje: The Untold Story
 "Appearances of  beings purported by the witnesses to be apparitions of the Virgin Mary, believed by others to be fabrications and illusions have been reported since the initiation of written history. Some may well be the Virgin Mary, some may be evil apparitions spawned in Hell, and some may well be fabrications of convenience by those seeking to advance their personal greed and agendas."  The founder of Christianity used as his symbol a fish {Not a Cross} this does not mean that purported apparitions of the woman who gave birth to him need smell "Fishy".

Ancient/Pre-Christian versions of the Version Mary.

  5. Olympias Virgin Mother of Alexander the Great.  Alexander the Great and his mother were real people, they existed outside of the fairy tale realm.  That Alexander was a great man is undeniable, he is primarily known as a conqueror, but in reality he was centuries ahead of the rest of the World in his thinking and ideology. A military Genius, as well as organizational and philosophical. He built an empire rivaling Rome but it was short lived and could not survive after his death.  A god-like persona and legends developed about him and his birth was hailed as being by a Virgin, while at the same time he had a mortal father. The  spark of a religious system that starting developing about him fizzled out after his death.

  6. Mayence Virgin Mother of Hesus.  In 40 AD Christian missionaries came upon a Pagan/Druid village in France, The Druids had a statue of The Virgin Mary and her Divine Son. This statue was placed in their shrine 100 years before the birth of Jesus Christ and was dedicated "to the Virgin who would have a Son."  The Druid god/idol ESUS is most likely who was depicted by these Druids. Their traditions , more than two thousand years old, represent the mother of Esus {Also referred to as Hesus} as being enveloped in light, with a crown of twelve stars upon her head.
