NEW BRITAIN — A businessman who pleaded guilty to having sex with a teenage boy will spend four and half years in prison for sexual assault.
Carl Gemino, 64, the former co-owner of Gem Manufacturing in Waterbury, stood in New Britain Superior Court in front of friends and family Wednesday, saying he was disgusted and appalled at his behavior. He stood reading from a prepared statement, hand in his pocket, pausing to compose himself.
"I stand before you ashamed and contrite," Gemino said.
According to his attorney, and friends who spoke before he was sentenced, Gemino suffered from bleeding in the brain that was discovered free teen sex clips in 2004. Judge Joan K. Alexander factored that medical condition into the sentence, saying the bleeding contributed to his uninhibited, impulsive behavior.
The sentence was given for sexual assaults on a boy who was 15 at the time of the encounters, which occurred last year. Gemino will also serve 20 years of probation and register as a sex offender after he's released.
Gemino was one of eight men arrested last year after the boy told police sex education video he had multiple sexual encounters with area men. Former Waterbury police Lt. Robert Kennedy was accused of assaulting the boy, as was former judicial marshal Donald Beaulieu, 41, of Watertown.
One of the men involved in the sexual activity, Edwin Guindin, admitted in court that he illegal preteen sex picture took part in an encounter with the boy and Gemino. Guindin said Gemino introduced him to the boy, and after arriving at Gemino's 6,758-square-foot Watertown home, he and the teenager soaked in a Jacuzzi.
