The 2'x4' Experiment
Black Diamonds were a major source of traffic on the WM.  This small coal yard handles about 6-8 hoppers at a time.  A mixed freight, pulled by a Life Like BL-2 and an Atlas RS-3 passes while hoppers for the Laurel Valley (my old free-lance) are loaded at the tipple.
This is one of my favorite views of the 2x4.  The basic layout is a simple oval, so I have the two major curves to contend with.  To disguise them, I put a small mountain ridge down the center.  I buried one end in a tunnel, and on this end the view is "distracted" by the creek and the bridges.  I did the water by painting the foam base with craft acrylics, blending blue, green and brown, then coating it with several layers of de' coupage liquid.  The locomotives are new Kato SD-40's, custom painted by me.
