Use of place-names, historical and ethnological sources for defining and testing models of settlement territories in the coastal zone.

Assessing the interactions of coastal Saami and other groups in terms of material culture, ritual behaviour, settlement organization and economy.

Comparisons with northern Norway, northern Finland and northwest Russia regarding long term adapation and change in Saami prehistory.
