Capt. Bruce Linder

Capt. Bruce K. Linder, the son of Adm. and Mrs. Isham Linder, USN (Ret.) of Monterey, Calif., was raised in San Diego and Coronado, Calif. He is a 1967 graduate of Coronado High School and a 1971 Annapolis graduate.

Initially assigned to USS Worden (CG-8) homeported in Yokosuka, Japan, Capt. Linder served as missile officer while that ship conducted combat suprt operations in the Gulf of Tonkin and f the coast of Vietnam.

Subsequent tours have included duty as operations officer on USS Lynde McCormick (DDG-8), operations officer on the staff of commander, Destroyer Squadron 33 and executive officer on USS Elliot (DD-967).

He assumed command of USS Elrod (FFG-55) while it was deployed to the Persian Gulf in the summer of 1989 and commanded that ship for two years. Under his command, Elrod won the Atlantic fleet Battle Efficiency �E�, was named as one of President Bush�s Thousand Points of Light and was active in a host of operations throughout the Atlantic and Caribbean.

Capt. Linder has been assigned duties ashore primarily in the areas supporting Navy Program Planning. This included three tours on the staff of the Chief of Naval Operations in Washngton, D.C. where he has been engaged in fiscal policy formulation and long-range planning.

He also served as the assistant chief of staff for warfare requirements, readiness and training on the staff of Commander, Naval Surface Force, U.S. Pacific Fleet.

While serving in command of Fleet Anti-Submarine Warfare Training Center, in San Diego, Capt. Linder also assumed duties as center commander NTC, holding down both positions simultaneously.

Capt. Linder has been awarded a Masters of Science degree in Oceanography from the University of Michigan, holds four Navy subspecialty designations (most notably in Anti-Submarine Warfare and in Operations Analysis) and served for a year as a federal Executive Fellow at the Brookings Institution in Washington, D.C.

In addition to various campaign, service and unit medals, Capt. Linder has been awarded the Legion of Merit; the Meritorious Service Medal (three awards); the Navy Commendation Medal (two awards); and the Navy Achievement Medal.

He is married to the former Deborah Ann Reynolds of Santa Ana, Calif. They have two daughters, Tern and Kelly.
