[OH SNAP! NUMBER FOUR]

midriff.  "BiMonocle Man" ep.

here it is: the first non-demo release on oh snap!, and what a pretty little piece it is, and totally DIY. while the recording and mixing isn't perfect, it's hard to believe these boys recorded it themselves in somebody's basement. it sounds pretty damn sweet, and the music is even sweeter.

now, when i first saw midriff live almost a year ago (when they were just beginning) i wasn't all that impressed. and while their live perfomance is much better now, i think midriff really shines in the studio. after my first couple live midriff experiences i thought i only really liked one or two of their songs, but this EP totally suprised me. i kept waiting for the ones i thought i didn't like, thinking the record might be a mixed bag, but, dammmnnn, this thing is solid as a fuckin rock. when i was told about the EP in the making, i was really just excited to hear "what the reader's want," which i had remembered really liking at their live show, but now i cant even pick a favorite track. and now that i know the songs i can't wait to play with these boys again and have a rockin sing along session. i think the difficulty to first accept midriff's sound is due to the fact that they combine elements from so many different types of music. you don't know what to think until you've heard it a few times and realize it's just good.

some mp3s from the EP are available at
midirff's mp3 site, as well as the ohsnap! records mp3 site.
