204: First Broadcast - 7pm Saturday, Oct 13 1991
Excellence Level: Bronze
Movie Pain: Medium - The idiotic stabs at humor are hurtful
Riffing: Induced mostly smiles
Skits: Very funny, this episodes highlight
An attempt at riffing on an (intended) comedy. Tommy Kirk stars in this teen beach flick about a stolen scroll. The comic relief is Exidor (Robert Donner) from "Mork & Mindy", who embarrasses himself by stumbling and bumbling and coming off lame rather than funny. Joel and the Bots seem to struggle in the riff department IMHO, their delivery feels a little flat and the humor levels run lukewarm. They offer up corny puns (Pringles, Rubens), some rhyming games with the name "Lakopolous" (He's totally Psychopolous") and a lot of "rich white kid/master race" jokes which grow stale after a while. The funniest bits are the Little Richard goofball comments The host segments are good. The Bots robotic prayers (including a reluctant blessing for Tweeky"), the Mads "Tank Tops", Joel's look at the 60's and Tom's "Creepy Girl" song; all brought a smile to my face. Capers not a horrible experiment, but there's nothing side splitting in it. It's an average episode as compared to others in the MST hit list.
Host Segments Intro: The Bots say their prayers. Invention: Tank Tops and Tickle Bazooka. Segment 1: Joel remembers the 60's. Segment 2: "Creepy Girl" song. Segment 3: A weaker skit; Frank's Tupperware party. End: Joel uses a chart to try and understand the movie.
No Stinger -But if I chose one? Dozens of beach guys wander zombie like towards unsuspecting creepy girl
