MCAS Yuma OSC Scholarships: 2006 - 2007 Introduction & Eligibility

DEADLINE

~All application materials MUST be received or postmarked on or before APRIL 15, 2007. Late applications or applications without all necessary documents will not be considered.

FACTS

~  The MCAS Yuma OSC will award scholarships for students attending accredited colleges or universities during the 2007-2008 academic year.

~  Scholarships will be awarded in two (2) categories: Graduating Seniors & Continuing Education Students.

Since 1995, OSC has awarded more than 55 scholarships totaling over $30,000.

SCHOLARSHIP VALUE

Amounts will vary.

ELIGIBILITY

Applicants must be:

A. Scholarship(s) may be awarded to a dependent spouse or child of a qualified Military Sponsor attached to MCAS Yuma or its tenant commands and/or a dependent spouse or dependent child of a qualified Military Sponsor whose residence at the time of the application is within the Yuma, Arizona area.  The remarriage of a widowed spouse will terminate their eligibility for the scholarship program.

B. Military Sponsors must fall into one of the following categories:

a. Officer or enlisted military personnel on active duty or attached to MCAS Yuma.

b. Officer or enlisted military personnel who has retired after twenty or more years of active duty.

c. Officer or enlisted military personnel who has separated from military service due to disability.

d. Officer or enlisted military personnel who died while on active duty.

e. Officer or enlisted military personnel who died after retirement from the military as stated in 'a' or 'b' above.

f. Officer or enlisted military personnel whose dependents reside in the area while the sponsor is on an unaccompanied tour or who remain to complete the school year after the transfer of the sponsor.

 

C. Applicant must provide a clear copy of a VALID MILITARY DEPENDENT ID CARD (front and back).

D. Scholarships may be awarded to graduating seniors, GED recipients, and continuing education students (including higher education) attending an accredited college or university during the following academic year.

E. Financial need will not be considered. Scholarship applications should make no reference to financial need or status, nor discriminate based on race, color, religion, sex, handicap, or national origin.

F. Applicants may be considered on the basis of academia, extracurricular activity, work experience, community involvement/contribution, military community involvement/contribution, educational and professional goals, essay composition, and recommendations.

G. Awarded scholarship funds will be sent directly to the school of the recipients’ choice. The school shall be directed to use the funds solely to defray expenses of tuition, class fees, and books within the following academic year.
