Pacific County Sheriff's Office Search & Resuce Association is an All Volunteer Unit. The unit operates under the direction of the Pacific County Sheriff and the PCSO SAR Coordinator.
     The unit is comprised of individuals who wish to help their communities, and those in need of assistance, by donating their time, support, and expertise. Specific duties within the unit include: Ground Search Teams, Mounted Teams, ATV Teams, Communications, SAR Base, and General Support Functions.

Membership Requirements:
   
Each member furnishes their own basic personal and survival gear as outlined in the "List of Required Items" provided to all members and prospective members. Items such as Radios, and GPS's are provided by the Unit. Required items may vary depending on the specific duties and/or level of participation of individual members.
     Each member will be trained to a basic level of competency with regard to their specific duties before being allowed to participate in actual searches. Initial training will be coordinated and/or provided by our own highly skilled instructors under the supervision of the Unit Training Officer. Further and more advanced training can be provided on an individual basis. The Unit also requires 8 hour per month of training designed to maintain proficiency in required knowledge and skills.
     Additional training is provided at the Washington State SAR Conference which is held each year in May. Numerous other training opportunities are offered throughout Washington and Oregon.

Search Call out:
PCSO-SAR
is activated by the Pacific County Sheriff for a wide variety of search scenarios including but not limited to: Lost or missing children, hunters, fishermen, hikers, bird watchers, mushroom pickers, Persons with Alzheimer's, and crime victims. We may also be called in to assist with downed aircraft, evidence searches at possible or known crime scenes, or in times of disaster. We may also travel to other counties to assist with searches as the approval of the Pacific County Sheriff who weighs many factors not limited to: the needs of the requesting county and the safety of our personnel.
