Short Biography

I was born in September 06, 1957, Governador Valadares [1], MG, Brazil. I received B.Sc. degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Instituto de Tecnologia de Governador Valadares (MIT) in 1979; M.Sc. degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (UFMG), Belo Horizonte, MG, in 1982 and D.Sc. (PhD) degree in Industrial Process Engineering (Chemical Engineering) from the Universit� de Technologie de Compi�gne (UTC), Compi�gne, France, in 1987.

I'm since 1982 an Associate Professor at the Mechanical Engineering Department (DEMEC), Engineering Faculty (EEUFMG), Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (UFMG), Belo Horizonte, MG, Brazil, one of the largest Brazilian universities, and also one of the top ranking universities as far as research is concerned. I am involved both in lecturing (at Post-Graduate and Undergraduate levels) and Research. My area of interest involves Thermal Systems, Combustion, Charcoal production and Environmental Engineering.

My research interests include carbonization and combustion of biomass, solar energy and use of informatics in engineering education. I have been involved in a number of research projects financed through Brazilian national agencies such as the Ministry of Science and Technology ( MCT), the National Research Council (CNPq) and Minas Gerais Research Council (FAPEMIG). He's got more than 60 papers in brazilian and international journals and conferences. I have been refferee for several brazilian conferences, and ad hoc consultant for FAPEMIG, FAPESP and CNPq. He is member of ABCM, ABENGE, ABEQ, ABRATEC, ISCES, RMBCV and SME.
