{ROOver 400 of this excellent vehicles were delivered to the German Army between 1975 and 1978. Developed by Mercedes Benz and Thyssen-Henschel together, this was an outstanding vehicle in its mobile performance. Fully amphibious, is propelled in water by two water jets mounted at each side of the rear hull, allowing it a speed of ten Kmh in water, doubling almost any other Armoured car in water. Of course that is not of so much importance, but another unusual aspect of this leopards' partner is that it can develope the same speed (60 mph) in both senses, front or rear, and there are two drivers, at the front and at the rear just in the case. Also, the main gun is double-feed, which allows it to change the ammo type (HE-AP) quite rapidly in order to face different kind of objetives. As built, the Luchs fits NBC protection system, and the Luchs A2 has a thermal night vision sytem.
