יתייה-Statement.

        We learn in a Braitah (a story about the Tannaim), that 

one time Rav Yossi was walking and he stopped at one of the ruins

 of Jerusalem to pray.

אב

.יתלפת  יתמייסש  דע  <יל ןיתמהו> חתפה לע יל רמשו בוטל רוכז 

והילא -Statement.

        Elijah the Prophet, who should always be remembered for 

good, came to the ruin and guarded the door until I finished 

praying.

יבר ךילע םולש ול יתרמאו יבר ךילע םולש יל רמא יתלפת יתמייסש רחאל

ירומו - Statement.

      After I finished my prayer, he said to me: Peace be unto 

you Rabbi, and I answered: Peace be unto you my Rabbi, my teacher.

וז הברוחל תסנכנ המ ינפמ ינב יל רמאו - Information Question.

      And he said to me: My son, for what reason did you come 

to this ruin?

ללפתהל ול יתרמא - Answer to Information Question.

      I answered him: To pray.

רמאו

ךרדב ללפתהל ךל היה יל - Attacking Question.

      And he said to me: You should have prayed on the way.

.םיכרד ירבוע יב וקיספי אמש יתייה ארייתמ ול יתרמאו  Answer to 

attacking question and Statement.

      And I answered him: I was afraid that maybe I would be 

interrupted by the people that I would meet on the way.

.הרצק הלפת ללפתהל ךל היה יל רמאו  Statement.

      And he said to me: You should have said a short prayer.

.םירבד השלש ונממ יתדמל העש התואב  Statement and Proof.

In this hour I learned three things.

.הברוחל ןיסנכנ ןיאש יתדמל  Statement and Proof.

      I learned that you should not go to a ruin.

.ךרדב ןיללפתמש יתדמלו - Statement and Proof.

      And I learned that you should pray on the way.

.הרצק הלפת ללפתמ ךרדב ללפתמהש יתדמלו - Statement and Proof.

      I learned that when you are praying on the way, you 

should say a short prayer.

.וז הברוחב תעמש לוק המ ינב יל רמאו  Information Question.

      And he said to me: What voice did you hear in this 

ruin?

םינבל יוא תרמואו הנויכ תמהנמש לוק תב יתעמש ול יתרמאו

.תומואה ןיבל םיתילגהו ילכיה תא יתפרשו  יתיב  תא  יתברחה 

םהיתונועבש -

Answer to an information question.

      And I answered him: I heard a heavenly voice that 

was cooing like a dove and was saying woe to my children 

that because of their sins I destroyed my house, burned 

my temple, and separated them between the nations.

שלש םויו םוי לכב אלא ךכ תרמוא דבלב וז העש אל ךשאר ייחו 

ךייח יל רמאו

.ךכ תרמוא םימעפ Statement.

      And he said to me: I swear by your life that this 

wasn’t the only time that this heavenly voice can be heard,

 rather, everyday three times a day, this voice can be heard.

אהי ןינועו תושרדמ יתבלו תויסנכ יתבל ןיסנכנ לארשיש העשב 

אלא דבלב וז אלו ךרובמ לודגה הימש  - Statement.

      And not only this, rather, when the children of 

Israel go to the houses of prayer and houses of learning

 and they answer: May G-ds great name be blessed.

.ותיבב ותוא ןיסלקמש ךלמה ירשא רמואו ושאר ענענמ אוה ךורב 

שודקה  Statement.

      G-d, blessed be he, will nod his head and he will 

say: Happy is the king that gets praised in his household.

.םהיבא ןחלוש לעמ ולגש םינבל םהל יואו וינב תא הלגהש באל ול 

המ ךכ Statement.

      Woe to the father that exiles his children and woe 

to the children that are exiled from their fathers table.

.הברוחל ןיסנכנ ןיא םירבד השלש ינפמ ןנבר ונת Statement.

      Our Rabbis teach us that for three reasons we do 

not go to ruins.

.דשח ינפמ  Statement.

      Out of suspicion (suspicious people hang out in 

ruins).

.תלופמה ינפמ  Statement.

      Out of danger (things might fall on you).

.ןיקיזמה ינפמו  Statement.

      Out of evil spirits.
