MAN - EATING

Tigers are not usually dangerous to man. A tigress with cubs may make a demonstration of frightfulness and attack in self -defense, or turn on their pursuers, as when wounded or harried in a beat, or the attack may be made in error a man being mistaken for more legitimate prey. Insufficiency of food, or cause such as age or wounds or faulty dentition, which prevent the securing of it, may make one of these animals a man-eater. Man-eating is more frequent in females than in males. The difficulty of finding food for their young may initiate the habit. A cub taking to the vice from its parents may retain the habit through life.
