After Yang Guo performs the No Dog Escapes stance, Ou Yang Feng quietly walks off. Yang Guo tries to go after him but Hong Qi Gong stops him, telling him that Ou Yang Feng has already accepted his defeat. So for a while, they wait inside the cave.
Finally, Ou Yang Feng returns with a triumphant expression on his lined face. He has found a way to defeat No Dog Escapes. He quickly instructs Yang Guo on how to perform it. When he sees it, Hong Qi Gong is overwhelmed by the clever and ingenious move. He decides to forget his grudge against Ou Yang Feng and calls his old friend to him. His gesture triggered something in Ou Yang Feng and his memory returns. They hug, laughing and crying all at the same time.
After a moment, Yang Guo notices that they aren't moving at all so he approaches them. With a heavy heart, he realizes that they are both dead. They have finally settled their differences and breathed their last in each other's arms.
Yang Guo burries the two great masters side-by-side up the snowy caps of Hua Shan. Hong Qi Gong and Ou Yang Feng are the last two great masters of the wulin world and Yang Guo knows that their deaths would cause a great impact on the fate of South Song. But at that moment, he does not care. He has lost two great friends -- one that he respected and one that he owed his life to.
Several days later, Yang Guo resumes his journey but this time, his heart brims with a new kind of hope. #
