M. Scott Carpenter
Scott Carpenter was selected as an astronaut in NASA's first class and is therefore a member of the original "Mercury 7" (1959).  During his career, he made one flight into space.  That was as the commander of the Mercury Atlas 7 mission named "Aurora 7."  He was launched into space on May 24, 1962, with a mission to prove that American could consistently put a man in orbit.  He became only the 4th American (6th human) to fly in space and the 2nd American to orbit the earth.  He retired from NASA in 1967 having flown in space for a total time of 4 hours and 56 minutes.

My Collection: This is a Kennedy Space Center Visitor's Pass from May 28, 1999, signed by Carpenter (bottom autograph) and his fellow astronaut Pete Conrad.
