Francis R. (Dick) Scobee
(1939-1986)
Dick Scobee was selected as an astronaut in NASA's eighth class (1978).  His first mission assignment came in 1984 when he flew as the pilot on board STS-41-C.  Next, he was the mission commander of the ill-fated STS-51-L flight in 1986.  On January 28, 1986, the Space Shuttle Challenger lifted off marking the beginning of the STS-51-L mission.  73 seconds later, there was a large explosion which destroyed the shuttle and killed the crew.  Scobee was lost as were six other astronauts.  During his career, he logged almost 7 days in space.

My Collection: Above is an official Nasa 8x10 litho which he has autographed.  Below is an astronaut warter survival course cover which Scobee has autographed (as have 13 other astronauts).  There is a close up of his signature below the image.
