Scooby Doo on Zombie Island

Scooby Doo on Zombie Island The most disappointing thing about Scooby Do on Zombie Island is that it should’ve been released to the theatre’s big screen before going to video since it is easily as good or better then most of this year’s animated movies. The animation was very well done, much better then the television animation, and the music is a lot of fun with at least two very upbeat and catchy tunes. Best of all though this time the ghosts Scooby Doo and the gang run into are real!

When the film opens times have changed and the detectives of Mystery Inc., Fred, Shaggy, Thelma, Daphne and, of course, Scooby have given up being detectives and moved onto other jobs. Fred is producing Daphne’s television show, Coast to Coast, Shaggy and Scooby are working for an airport to prevent contraband food from entering the country and Thelma has opened her own mystery book store. Personality wise, the characters have grown up as well, Thelma has started to notice guys, Fred and Daphne seem to openly be a couple now plus Daphne has learned judo and is no longer the klutz she used to be. After reflecting on her show about how the ghosts Mystery Inc. chased always turned out to be fakes Daphne announces to her audience that she is going to find and film a real ghost for her show. To help, Fred reunites the old gang and Mystery Inc. is back in business. But what happens when they discover real ghosts only to find out there are supernatural things even the ghosts are scared off? Especially when those things decide to attack Scooby Doo and Co.?

An absolutely wonderful kid’s video though I do have two complaints. First, it’s always been a running joke in the show about Shaggy and Scooby’s big appetites, but this has been taken one step further until these character’s table manners aren’t just bad; they’re nasty and obnoxious. It’s the sort of thing a child might think is funny, but really isn’t; especially if the child tries to copy Shaggy and Scooby’s disgusting behavior at their own dinner table. Second, the cartoon tagged onto this video at the end by the Cartoon Network is completely unacceptable for small children. The Powerpuff Girls would be all right for middle age kids, teenagers and adults who enjoy cartoons, but their violence is simply too graphic for the smaller age kids that enjoy Scooby Doo the most.

Other then those two complaints though this was an excellent kid’s movie. Give that dog a scooby snack. Heck, give him the whole box, he deserves it!
