The Zeta Theta Sigma Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. was established on February 25, 1977 by nine brothers who shared in the fraternity’s common purpose of brotherhood, scholarship, and service, which is expressed in the fraternity motto: “Culture for Service and Service for Humanity.”
The General Board of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc granted these brothers the chapter named Zeta Theta Sigma with the following nine charter members:
Once the chapter was
established, several other brothers came into the fold, including Bros.
E.L. Belton and Rev. Clifford Barnett. The brothers continued to strive
towards excellence, however, the chapter became inactive in 1983.
Fortunately, several Sigma Men, graduates of Winthrop University (then Winthrop College) saw a need to reactivate the idle chapter.
In August of 1992, Bro. James White met with Bros. Robert Foster, Reginald Brackett, Andre Davis, Melvin Allen, and Walter Strawther to discuss the idea of reactivating the chapter. By December of 1992, the Zeta Theta Sigma Chapter was reactivated and organized with the following officers and members:
