So far as far as my web searches go this is the first Equation page available on the www, and the question has to be WHY! They have been around since 1995, when the group, Kathryn Roberts, Sean Lakeman, Seth Lakeman, Darren Edwards, Ian Goodall and James Crocker also featured Kate Rusby. They had a couple of EPs out around that time, Sessions and He Loves Me , but it wasn't until 1998 (with Miss Rusby long since departed) that their first album 'Hazy Daze' was released.
I first discovered them back in 1996 when getting ready for work one morning (about 6.30 am!) He Loves me played on VH1 (if anyone has a copy of that video I would love to hear from you- oh the memories!). It struck just the right note for that time of the morning with work looming and I was resolved to get it.. A couple of months later I picked up a copy and then had to wait 2 years for the album!
Anyway they have a new album out now called 'The Lucky Few' which is great, typical Equation upbeat folk pop-rock levelled through the brilliant, versatile voice of Kathryn Roberts. Taking in a couple of uniquely interpreted traditional songs, Mother and Child and Sheffield Park which you won't hear arranged quite like it anywhere else! |
