This is the A/C sight glass on a 1984 900, located in the (US) passenger side fender.
Does your 8-valve 900 have a low idle when you turn on the A/C?
If so, read below to see what one SAAB Master Technician recommended to me. You can try this fix yourself with only a screwdriver or 7mm nut driver--for hose clamps--before buying a new $90 A/C idle-up valve at your SAAB dealer!

This is the A/C idle-up valve found on 8V 900s, in revised position (shown this time from the U.S. driver's side). NOTE: This is the fix that my mechanic, Tom Townsend, recommends to keep the aging A/C idle-up valve happy. His theory is that the valve gums up after a while and needs the engine vibration (supplied by repositioning the valve to bear against the frontmost intake runner on the intake manifold) as shown above. |
