This page will attempt to give info on several different SAAB repair procedures, all of which are in the scope of the shadetree/Saturday mechanic.
Maintenance
(intro page)
To replace turn signal or wiper switches: First, remove the two small screws on either side of the steering wheel--you may need to turn the wheel slightly off center to access them. Then, remove the quarter turn black plastic speed-screw (using a small coin or flat screwdriver) from beneath the dash. The under steering wheel fascia panel should fall right down. Be careful not to drop it! The small 'ears' which the two upper screws go through can be easily broken off.
Next, remove the bracket which houses both the wiper/washer stalk and the signal stalk. Two Phillips head screws hold the bracket to the steering column. After removing them, the bracket will dangle down (with both switches attached) below the level of the upper steering wheel shroud--the reason you couldn't get to the stalk retaining screws, until now. It is now easy to remove the individual switches. Either one is attached with 2 Phillips head screws.
To replace the clear parking lamps: First, use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the single screw which attaches the parking lamp holder/headlight bezel to the car body. (It is located in the far right--viewed from front of car--for the driver's side bezel and the far left for the passenger's side bezel.) Then, tilt the side of the bezel gently outwards while pulling to the right for the driver's bezel or the left for the pass. bezel. The assembly will come out, but the parking lamp bulbholder and wire is attached to the rear of the bezel. Grasp the bulbholder and twist a quarter turn counterclockwise--if I remember correctly.
