Pulling codes from an LH 2.4 Jetronic-equipped SAAB 900
(1989-93 Turbos, 1988-90 non-turbos)
This page (to be updated with text soon) will attempt to provide a guide to pulling (reading) the fault codes stored by the above mentioned SAAB 900 16-valve cars. (8-valve 900s do not have this fault-code storage capability, nor do LH 2.2 cars). These fault codes can provide useful information when troubleshooting the cars listed above in red because the LH 2.4 computer controls many aspects of the engine's operation, including: fuel injector timing, cold and warm idle speed, "idle-up" for idling under load of the air conditioner, fuel cut-off during deceleration (manual trans.), rev limiting fuel cut-off, emissions canister (ELCD or Evaporative Loss Control Device valve), etc. The LH 2.4 computer has a "handle" on what's going on inside the engine. It can give useful insight as to any problems since it receives information from the spark knock sensor, coolant temperature sensor, oxygen sensor, Air Mass Meter (AMM), EZK spark control (ignition computer), and others.

This is the area of the LH 2.4 test plug location on a 1989 3-door 900S.
This photo above shows the area of the LH 2.4 test plug in a 1989 900S 3-door. Test plug for 1990 900 base 3-door is known to be exactly the same location as well. 900 convertibles may have test plug under shift boot. 1988 900S test connector is located in engine bay, to the best of my knowledge. (If anyone has a photo of the 1988/underhood LH 2.4 connector, email it to me. I would love to post it on here for clarity's sake.)
This is the LH 2.4 test plug, with protective black plastic cap removed. The hand points to the test terminal to be grounded for the code pulling procedure (#2 of 10 spots, some blank, in the test plug).
The black arrow      indicates the test plug itself. Seat bottom is shown folded forward, looking to rear of car.
The photo above shows the LH 2.4 test plug in a 1989 900S 3-door. Test plug is used by grounding the #2 terminal (indicated by the hand icon        ) as described in the Bentley 16V manual, or on the Townsend Imports website, or on the Swedish Wrench website--see my Links page.
