Music

If I'm not watching TV or Movies, or reading a book, then I'm probably on my computer. And if I'm on my computer, then I'm probably also listening to music. My interests in music a varied, and the only thing I will not listen to is rap of any kind, and I'm not overly fond of country music in general. Here are some of my favorites.

Craig Chaquico

What's that? Never heard of him? Oh, yeah? You mean you've never listened to Jefferson Airplane or Starship? Craig Chaquico was the lead guitarist for Starship, and he carries that experience with him on his new solo career as a contemporary jazz artist. If you haven't heard his solo stuff yet, swing over to Higher Octave Music and visit his home page. There are samples there for downloading, if you have a sound card and Real Audio. Once you've heard a sample, you'll want to run straight out and pick up his CD's. A Thousand Pictures, is also a Multi-Media CD, with interviews, behind the scenes movies and a video of Sweet Talk on it. His latest release, Once in a Blue Universe is a must buy album! Yanni

At long last, Yanni has new albums out! Yippee!!

His latest release, Tribute, has been playing in it's video form on PBS this winter and is just as fantastic as Live at the Acropolis. Recorded live at the Taj Mahal in India and the Forbidden City in China (the first Western artist to perform at either location), the music is stunning. Also included is Yanni's first song with vocals. If you haven't heard it yet, don't miss checking out these sample tracks.

New Release Alert!!! - Scheduled for release on January 6th is Nightbird, the very latest from Yanni! Order your advance copy at CDNow!

His concert album Live at the Acropolis was the first fully instrumental album to reach the Billboard top ten list since Van Clyburn back in the 1960's. His music was used during the 1996 Atlanta Olympics as theme music while the athletes were entering the stadium on opening night. In short, I've never met anyone who heard Yanni's music that didn't like it. So what do you call a guy who writes classical style music today? A modern classicalist? I don't know, and I don't care - as long as he keeps creating this incredible music.

Hootie and the Blowfish

That man has the most incredible voice I've heard in a long time! Upbeat, modern with a good beat, I fell in love with their music the first time I heard it. My favorite song on the album is "Goodbye", the one that's just Darius and the piano.

Chant

The Benedictine Monks of Santo Domingo de Silos

Calm, reflective, mesmerizing. I love this stuff. Just the thing the Padre ordered when stress has you about to blow. I figure they must be doing something right, or the art form wouldn't have lasted as long as it has.

I haven't heard it in full yet (because I haven't bought it yet), but if you like this one you should check out their new Christmas Chants album.

Chicago

If the music is based on real life experiences, then these guys must have one hell of a time with relationships, because nobody, and I mean nobody, does love songs like Chicago. Listening to these guys always makes me warm and fuzzy on the inside.

Thank you for the music

ABBA

Not that I have any desire to perpetuate a gay stereotype or anything, but you just gotta love Abba. I'm in heaven now, having just received my special boxed set of 4 CD's, jam packed with every piece of work ever recorded by Abba. It even has a book inside :) Like I said, Heaven! Click for Midi Dancing Queen is one of my favorites, as is Click for Midi Waterloo.
