  • Lori Buckwalter Awarded Human Rights Achievement Award (15 Jan 2001)
    During the Martin Luther King, Jr. celebration, Mayor Vera Katz awarded Lori the Mayor's Human Rights Achievement Award 2001. (ITO is currently seeking permission to repost the article that appeared in the 23 Jan 2001 issue of the Oregonian about Lori receiving this award.)
  • Multnomah County Includes Gender Identity in Civil Ordinance (3 Jan 2001)
    Multnomah County Board of Commissioners will expand its civil rights protections to transgendered individuals.
  • Portland Includes Gender Identity in Civil Ordinance (13 Dec 2000)
    The Portland City Council approved by unanimous vote a resolution aliing protection against discrimination on the basis of gender identity to the City's civil rights ordinance.
  • County Sheriff's Office Issues Special Order (2 Jun 2000)
    The Multnomah County Sheriff's Office issued a special order specifically aliressing the treatment of transgender detainees/inmates.
  • Portland City Council Passes TG Resolution (23 Dec 1998)
    Landmark resolution showing the courage and compassion of the City of Portland Mayor and Commissioners, and supported by groups such as Human Rights Campaign, Basic Rights Oregon, It's Time, America!, the Metropolitan Community Church, the Lesbian Community Project, Equity Foundation, Northwest Gender Alliance, TransPort, Phoenix Rising, and others.

  • Benton County Leads the Way (7 Aug 1998)
