The fight between ancestor and descendent will soon begin.  Knuckles, along with Archimedes, may soon learn that he needs a lot of help.

Knuckles and Archimedes face the Chaotix, who are ready to fight.  Archimedes instructs Knuckles to wait for his signal.

Part Three

Archimedes breathes fire and the Chaotix run out of the way.  Vector breaks some glass and removes an emergency fire hose.  He sprays water at Knuckles and Archimedes, but soon a cloud of fog appears where the two once stood.  The Chaotix search the room when suddenly Knuckles appears and hits Mighty and Vector.  Archimedes breathes fire at Charmy.  Enerjak says he should have planned this and decides to take action.  Knuckles and Archimedes pass out and fall to the ground.  Enerjak tells the Chaotix to bring the two to him.

(Knuckles Art - 1 page)

Enerjak remembers how he and his brother Edmund dreamed about returning the Floating Island to Mobius.  He had designed the Chaos Syphon, which would slowly lower the island to the land.  However, the council elders and Edmund thought that this was too daring.  Enerjak decided to proceed with the plan, but he did not expect that the energy channeled into him would change him.  Enerjak did not consider the fire ants interfering, and the ants ended up destroying the tower.  Enerjak thinks that Edmund decided to atone for his deeds since Edmund probably felt guilty after he died.  Enerjak did not die and waited until the time was right for him to return and conquer the world.

Enerjak says that the only thing that could possibly stop him were Knuckles and Archimedes and admits that he was surprised that they survived the desert.  Knuckles says that they really aren't here and that Enerjak is speaking to a mirage.  Knuckles thinks to himself that Enerjak had no idea about the oasis they found.  Enerjak is upset and hits Knuckles and Archimedes with a burst of energy.  He says that Knuckles cannot comprehend his power and he will create a new tower, one that will not collapse.  Knuckles says that history may repeat itself.  Archimedes' antennas glow and outside the antennas of the fire ants begin to glow.

Enerjak uses another burst of energy throw Knuckles and Archimedes across the room.  Knuckles says that he is not impressed.  Enerjak says that Knuckles should cower in fear since he cannot escape.  Archimedes tells Knuckles to wait for his signal and the two soon disappear in a cloud of smoke.  Enerjak says that their tricks cannot help them.  Just as he stopped the air flow earlier (which is why Knuckles and Archimedes passed out while fighting the Chaotix), Enerjak begins to swear he will do something.  He realizes that the two are gone.  Meanwhile, a group of fire ants head toward the citadel.

Enerjak tells the Chaotix to find both Knuckles and Archimedes.  The Chaotix quickly leave.  Soon Knuckles is excited over Archimedes' illusion trick.  Archimedes says they must counterattack and soon the two appear in front of a grate inside a vent.  He begins to tell Knuckles to get into position.  Knuckles pounces on the grate and crashes onto Enerjak.  Enerjak lifts himself from the floor, knocking Knuckles backwards.  Enerjak criticizes Knuckles for his move.  Knuckles calls Enerjak "Great Uncle Dimitri," the only echidna to put himself above the greater good.  Knuckles says that he is a result of Dimitri's actions.  Dimitri says that Knuckles is a result of Edmund and the cowardly grand council.

As Dimitri and Knuckles fight, rockets are attached to the outside of the citadel.  Dimitri continues to mock Knuckles, who says he will never lose his honor.  Knuckles lands next to Archimedes and the ground breaks in two.  The rockets fire and the citadel soars into the sky.  As Archimedes hangs on to for life, Knuckles glides to safety.  Knuckles sets Archimedes on the
ground with the other fire ants.  Archimedes thanks them for their work.  One ant says that they were only responsible for the escape route, but launching the citadel into space.  Archimedes wonders who was responsible.

The city vanishes and the Chaotix regain control over their minds.  They congratulate Knuckles, who says that it was a number of factors that saved the day.  The stories of Knuckles' father, Archimedes, and Enerjak helped Knuckles in addition to his unexpected sources of help.  Knuckles learned that he cannot be alone and rely on only himself.  Archimedes brings up the fact that Enerjak had no idea about the oasis and nobody knows where the oasis came from or where it went after it disappeared.  Vector asks who cares and the Chaotix decide to party.

A cloaked figure watches everyone on the monitor, pleased with Knuckles.  Since Knuckles was able to distract Enerjak, he was able to attach the rockets to the citadel.  The figure says that he is happy that Knuckles accepted Archimedes, which continues the relationship between the echidnas and fire ants.  He says he will continue to watch, just as his forefathers did, since a father must look after his son.

Archimedes admits that he didn't think Knuckles could adapt to new situations (from the Sonic & Knuckles special).  He adds that he believes Knuckles is willing to take on the challenge of being the guardian of the Floating Island.  Knuckles says that it is the start of a beautiful friendship.

Epilogue
The citadel continues to fly in space as a voice laughs.
