Surdulica has three primary schools (of total number of seven
in the community), High School "Svetozar Markovic", High
School of Agriculture "Josif Pancic", High Techincal
School "Nikola Tesla". There is also a theathre hall,
and a well equipped library with over 40.000 books. Surdulica has its
own radio programme and a correspondence office of RTS (Serbian radio
television).

The cultural life of Surdulica is specific because of many
festivities. They are traditional and are held every year.
The most known of them is "Vlasinsko leto" (the contest for
the best brass band, best folklore ensamble etc.) which is held in
early July.
"Vlasinski
kotlic" (the contest in sport fishing, rowing contest) is held at
Lake Vlasina. "Winter festival of entertainment and
recreation" is also held at Vlasina in early March.
Surdulica
has its theathre with many amateur actors.
