Mistral's Daughter, 1984

Certainly, this mini-serial has stuck in viewer's memory with its ever-young musical theme "L'amour en heritage" (The Inheritable Fondness) which was sung with gusto by Nana Mouscoury.

This melodrama tells us about the life of an young provincial woman, who came to Paris to conquer it, probably, at the beginning of the twentieth century. Timothy Dalton in a company with Stacy Keach (Mistral) and Stefanie Powers (Maggie Lunell) rejoiced the viewers with his presence not for a long time: his hero, a beautiful man from fairy tale, a man of honour, a man of fortune, American Perry Kilkullen dies of a heart attack after playing a game of squash tennis with his business partner. Even in the middle age it seemed to be impossible for Timothy Dalton's character to hold an American wife and a French amie with a child in his heart

It's very pleasant to me, that my friends at least from London and from Moscow give the same appreciation to this film. Answering the question of my London pen-friend, who was getting to copy "Daughter" for me: "You know, this serial is very long. Do you need it as a whole, or I can rewrite the tape until the moment, when he will die?", - I answered: " until.." and I was never sorry about it.
