PHOTOS of TUVA

Tuva has a rugged stark landscape, with many forests and lakes in the eastern part.
Traditional shamanism and Buddhism are increasing in popularity,
following the downfall of atheistic communism.

The first four photos were taken in 1990 by Andrejs Grants, who visited Tuva with a Latvian film team to make a video about Tuva. But upon returning home with much footage and wonderful images, they found that the Soviet Union was dissolving, and there was no more funding for the film project. So the photos can only appear here, rather than on the planned videotape. Click any photo for a larger picture.
