Peter Shelley
Peter Shelley
Master of marquetry
and the straw arts.
In 1977 Peter knew he was totally hooked on straw work
after a series of courses with Lettice Sanford, Alec Coker,
and Margaret Bradbury. Peter, Alec, and Janet Twigger
set up the popular publication "Corn Dolly Newsletter" in 1980.
A 1985 visit to Switzerland started his interest in Swiss Straw work.
Lina Croucher and Chris Hill got him deeply into marquetry.
He was a founding member of the "Guild of Strawcraftsmen" in 1989.
In 1995 Peter helped produce the book "A Handful of Straw".

This "Kingfish" is one of Peter's colorful designs in marquetry.
Victorian Lady
Peter has taught his "Victorian Lady" to many people attending the Magic of Straw course at Missenden Abbey in 1997 and at the National Association of Wheat Weavers annual convention in Kansas City in 1998.
This "Triptych" is
a fine example of Peter's use of dyed wheat in marquetry designs.
