Shinsei

Table | Map of Makura

"Shinsei" means "divine," and so are these warriors of Shou Ken Cloisters whose holy devotion can catapult them into a reverie of whirling action in the defense of their faith. Shinsei have dedicated their lives defending the Shou Ken philosophy, and thus also practice it. The teachings of Shou ken postulate that all things are composed of motion and rest - thus, practitioners of Shou Ken are known to walk serenely, one step at a time, and then suddenly burst into a sprint and end in an amazing leap. It has been not unknown for visitors to be hit by the occasionally "flying monk" coming over the walls.

Though a physical terror, the mind of a shinsei is to be feared as well. The practice of Shou Ken philosophy seems to engender the ability to manifest the will of the mind in very real ways - static lightening floating through the air toward foes, invisibility, and even the ability to see in preternatural darkness. Thus, the true shinsei knows not only his physical abilities, but those of his mind, as well.

Class features

Psionics - Owing to his religions training of mind and body, the shinsei develops his psionic powers as he advances in experience. At some levels she accrues the manifester level, increase in power points, and number of powers known as if she had advanced a level in her previous psionic core class.  She can also gain bonus power points.  Psychic warriors who become shinsei can choose a discipline and also gain bonus power points.

At other levels, she gains one attack/defense mode of her choosing.  She cannot swap out these modes for feats with the Resculpt Mind feat.

Embodiment of Shou Ken - A shinsei hones his ability to act in sudden bursts of action. At first level, he can add his Wisdom bonus (if any) to Jump skill checks. This modifier stacks with all other modifiers.

At seventh level, he can add his Wisdom modifier, if positive, to initiative rolls. Again, this bonus stacks with all others.

Embodiment of Shou Ken is an extraordinary ability.

Trigger Burst - At first level, a shinsei earns the Trigger Power feat for the burst power (Psionics Handbook, p. 58) even if he does not meet the requirements for this feat. This allows him to manifest burst for free by making a successful Dexterity check with a DC of 11. He cannot "take 10" on this roll. Burst adds +10 feet to the character's movement rate in that round. This ability is gained at level one.

Calm Reflection - Contrary to decisive action and yet just as important to the Shou Ken philosophy is the contemplative aspect of life. At second level, the shinsei has studied enough of the teachings to grant him a +2 morale bonus to Concentration and Autohypnosis skill checks. Note that he must have at least one rank in Autohypnosis to use that skill, however.

Prowess - At fifth level, the shinsei learns the power prowess (Psionics Handbook, p.94). He can manifest this power instantly to make an extra attack of opportunity. If the shinsei already knows this power (e.g., from another class), he gains no benefit. He must pay the power point cost to manifest prowess as normal.

Improved Burst - At ninth level, whenever a shinsei successfully manifests burst with the Trigger Power feat, he gains +20 feet to his movement rate. If he fails to manifest it with this feat, he only adds +10 feet to his movement rate.

Shield of Prudence - At tenth level, the reactions of the shinsei have been honed by the discipline of mind. He learns the power shield of prudence (Psionics Handbook, p. 100). This grants him a +6 insight bonus to AC. He must pay the power points required to manifest it, as usual. If he already knows this power through another class, he gains no benefit.
