We started the year 2001 at home in New Bern. The weather was the topic of conversation most of the time since like everywhere else it was like a roller coaster. Several records were broken both high and low. The robins were back in late January. We are looking forward to the return of the humming birds.
Jo and I spent a week in Las Vegas around the beginning of April with Holly Ann, Art and Jo sister Genevieve. We spread our donations out between several casinos. We celebrated Holly Ann and Art 10th anniversary. Also got to see several sites such as the Hoover Dam, Liberace Museum, Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum and a great show called " Honky Tonk Angels" plus several show at the many casinos.
We started our trip to Vermont early in May and made several stops along the way. The first stop was in Baltimore for crab cakes and lobster bisque, we also spent some time with Josephine sister Genevieve. The next stop was in Hyde Park to see how much Kali Ann had grown and visit with Billy and Grace. The third stop was to visit with Holly Ann and Art and test out their new hot tub. The hot tub sure does relax you. We finally arrived at our camp in West Swanton VT around the middle of May and were greeted by Mary Catherine, Jacob and Nick. The boys have sprouted up.
We got to see Nick taking riding lessons at
the farm where he is learning to care for horses as part of his 4H training.
Part of the training is cleaning the stall and grooming the horses.
May
27,2001 we were in Hyde Park for Kali Ann christening at the Regina Coeli
church. We celebrated the event and met neighbors we hadn't seen in several
years.
The weekend of June 30, 2001 we hosted the fifth reunion of the Poplawski family at the camp in Swanton, VT. There were 39 people from 12 different states at the celebration. It was great to meet the people we hadn't meet before and get to know everyone. Thou we had two storms, one which forced the disassembling of the tents, we all had a great time and the food was great. We managed to get in some boating, tubing, water skiing and fishing along with the good food and companionship. There was much discussion as to where the next reunion will be. There are many more pictures of the reunion at http//photos.yahoo.com/wjssr1
In
August we made our annual visit to the Saratoga
racetrack with Holly Ann, Arthur and Jo sister Genevieve. The ladies did
well but someone has to feed the horses. That evening Holly Ann and Art took us
to a restaurant called Carmine's in Albany. It is a super restaurant and anyone
visiting the area should try it.
What a difference a year makes!!!
On September 6, 2001 our second great
grandson Seth Purcell was born in Suffolk, VA. He weighted 6 pounds 12
ounces and was 19.5 inches long. Mom and baby are doing fine!
