We started the year off with Josephine recuperating from her surgery for a knee replacement. She recovered and is doing well. Complete recovery take a long period of time. We enjoyed the mild winter of North Carolina coastal area.
Early April we took a trip to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina to get rid of our cabin fever of the winter. Holly Ann and Arthur joined us and they got rid of their cabin fever by golfing. Eating, shopping and more eating kept us busy for the week. Eating at Captain George's was a experience besides the good food.
In early May we started our voyage north with the first stop being Baltimore where we visited Jo sister Genie. While in Baltimore we made a trip to the Inner Harbor and indulged in seafood bisque and crab cakes. UMMMMM good! The next stop was Hyde Park to see some old neighbors and visit with Billy, Grace and Kali. Kali has grown a lot since the last time we seen her. The next stop was to visit with Holly and Art. We got to use the hot tub and feasted on Haagen-Dazs ice cream. After all the stops to visit we finally made the last leg of our trip to the camp in Swanton VT. It was a great trip up.
In May we attended the Graduation ceremony for Mary Catherine. She attended a 10 week course called Step Up where women were taught various construction trades to prepare them to enter the workforce. They were taught by various professional journeymen and journeywomen and spent time in the field.
In May and June we were deluged with many storms which resulted in some flooding. This caused flooding in our driveway but we were able to get in and out with our SUV. One of the storms broke up our 4 docks and brought two into shore but took one out into deep water. Luckily we were able to locate it with our fish finder and recovered it after several days. We weren't able to get a garden in till late in June.
We celebrated Memorial Day weekend with all the children and their families. It was great to be able to get everyone together for the weekend. It was a weekend of fun , fishing and of course eating.
The fishing was better than most prior years. Not sure whether it was because we had more time or our luck was better. Most all of the fish were returned to be caught another day. We had our share of small fish and the Smallest Fish Trophy was held by most everyone at one time or another during the season. Most of the big fish were caught just off the docks in front of the camp.
We celebrated Kali Ann second birthday July 7 at the camp. A good time was had by all.
In August we took a trip down to Florida to help celebrate our Aunt Clare's 90th birthday. It was a great event since we got to meet relatives we had never met or hadn't met in many years. We also took a trip to see our Uncle Walt who is not able to get around well.
We made our annual trip to Saratoga race track in August and the ladies did well while I donated the cost of several bales of hay to feed the horses.
