The material in this website requires that the reader have an understanding of basic algebra, trigonometry, geometry and vector analysis. Using this knowledge as a starting point, the studies and diagrams move on to discuss how to resolve the angles needed to frame a Hip/Valley roof.

Links to tables of commonly used trig and vector formulas are listed below. Proof of these elementary relationships is not the purpose of this site, and no explantion of how to work the formulas out from first principles is given.

For those who need to learn the basics, or just want a quick refresher, there are many excellent tutorial websites, with diagrams and interactive applets that give the formulas meaning and help the student visualise what the math is all about.
